Put your energy behind efficiency

When it comes to saving money one of the items on the top of the list that we scrutinise is often energy and how efficient we are with its usage at home.  In fact, recent reports show that 56% of people who are purchasing a new home consider energy efficiency as extremely important*.  And at Oaklands Green we agree!

An energy efficient home is one that reduces its demand for non-renewable energy resources, wasted energy usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. Features that can make a home energy efficient include, but are not limited to:

  • Smart design
  • Insulation
  • Energy efficient heating and cooling
  • Energy efficient hot water systems
  • Window frames, glazing and shading
  • Draught proofing
  • Ventilation
  • Efficient lighting – use of natural light
  • Water recycling systems

While Oaklands Green has energy efficiency on the top of its list of deliverables, there also are some measures we can take at home that will help reduce our energy usage.

These include the purchase of energy efficient appliances for example, fridges, televisions, washing machines and dishwashers. And choosing water saving fittings and appliances.

Other simple tips to reduce your power bill are:

  1. Turn off unnecessary lights.
  2. Use natural light.
  3. Take shorter showers.
  4. Turn water off when shaving, washing hands and brushing teeth.
  5. Unplug unused electronics.
  6. Swap the desktop computer for a laptop that you only plug in when required.

Oaklands Green is an advocate of quality design which in turn contributes to energy efficiency.  That’s because good design improves the way our buildings, streets and places function, making them more sustainable, more accessible, safer and healthier.
