In a year that saw shopping for pretty much anything happening online, it's time to get back to real retail therapy - it's Christmas!

A time for
enjoying family

Well, the month has just tipped over to December, which is often the time many of us start to get serious about Christmas shopping. And as usual, there are two sides to this big buying time – gifts, and preparing the house for parties, lunches and guests. And as difficult as the year leading up to Christmas 2020 has been, all the predictions are this year will be a celebration like no other.

The great thing about the traditional ‘silly season’ is it really brings people together. Which means great times can be had by all, without digging too deep into the pocket. For most of us, this year will be about buying smartly, not extravagantly.

Even those who might have been planning a trip at this time and are now putting that spend towards a Christmas staycation – enjoying family and friends instead of flights – are looking at ways to help the dollars make more sense.

To be able to make these calls, you need options and there are those aplenty around Oaklands Green. The obvious place to head first is Westfield Marion. One of the largest shopping malls in the state, what the complex offers under one roof are answers to your Christmas gift ideas and your party needs along with plenty of coffee bars and lunch spots between stores to sit and rest your feet for a minute.  With 342 stores you’ll be sure to find gifts for almost everyone!

If you have the kids in tow, they can help find Santa’s missing reindeers in Westfield in the Reindeer Rescue augmented reality adventure.  Find out more about it here.

There is a Charlesworth Nuts store in Westfield, but their factory is also nearby, with a huge selection of pre-packaged festive season gifts to suit absolutely every budget.

Putting on a Christmas lunch? Well, it’s easier to produce your best, with the best produce. It’s only a short drive to the Wayville Showgrounds and the Adelaide Farmers’ Market.  Talk to the stall owners who’ll happily tell you the backstory to your spuds, and the deets about your beets.

Closer to home, there’s the Carousel Fruit Barn – a favourite for fresh flavours for home cooks and local chefs alike.  And don’t forget, Harbour Town Premium Outlets is just over 7kms down the street from Oaklands Green.  You’ll be able to buy twice as much with your presents budget here!

If there’s a message to consider as we head off to enjoy this year’s Christmas cheer, it’s probably – keep it simple and stay safe. Wishing you all the best to you and your family for the season.
